PairASight - Let Others See Through Your Eyes

PairASight - Let Others See Through Your Eyes

Generally when somebody states “smart glass”, immediately everybody gets the first thought of Google Glass. But different from Google Glass, a concept of new glass came up known as PairASight which falls into the same category of “smart glass”.

What it is?

PairASight project is an attempt to develop smart glasses which allows others to see what you are seeing via your own eyes no matter how far you are from each other. They would feel like they are present at the moment and watching the scenario with their own eyes. With PairASight technology you no longer have to hold tablet, camcorder or camera to capture photos and videos and then sharing with your friends or relatives. Let them see what you are seeing in real time.

PairASight Glass
PairASight Glass

What it consist?

This glass looks like regular glass installed with 2 cameras, each placed on either side. Original model provided only 5MP camera. But later the model upgraded to video camera streaming with 1080p in HD. Also this glass contains speaker and microphone integrated on either side of the glass. Whatever you see is streamed wirelessly to another person allowing you to share real time experience with others. PairASight works on two way audio communication system. Audio and video are streamed wirelessly from the glasses to user’s smartphone or tablet which can be shared anywhere in the world over internet.

How helpful it is?

If someone is stuck somewhere in between and are not able to figure it out what actually the problem is, they can talk to someone without being  physically present and show them what they see in 3D with accurate details. This can be helpful in various areas like medical analysis for doctors to show another expert live if they are not able to determine the disease, during automotive repair - if a mechanic is not able to figure out the fault,  military soldiers to transfer various information and situation they are into to their respective authorities and it is used for entertainment purpose too.

PairASight project presently employs six individuals and is in the paradigm stage as there is no official declaration on how glasses will communicate with the smartphone or PC, though it has received lot of praise and interest after winning Technovation Award at CE week in New York. Company expects to bring the Glasses into the market early upcoming year with the intention of business use. It will be interesting to witness when PairASight glasses will come into the market and stand against its competitor, Google Glass.

3D Printing - Technology Transforming Dreams Into Reality

3D Printing - Technology Transforming Dreams Into Reality

It’s every designer’s dream to transform his idea into a physical object that he can touch and feel. 3D printing technology helps to transform this dream into reality by creating any3D objects of any shape virtual model.
3D Printer
3D Printer

How it works?

First of all, a 3D digital image is made using CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software. The image generated is in the form of .STL, .WRL (VRML), .PLY, .3DS and .ZPR files, is then sent to 3D printer. Then 3D printer places consecutive layers of liquid, powder, paper or metal material and constructs 3D model of the image by shaping series of cross-sections.

Different techniques used to build 3D objects.

There are different types of 3D printing techniques invented after 1970. Some of them are following.

1. Extrusion process: - In this process, plastic filament or metal wire is used which is wound around the coil and is reeled off to supply material to extrusion nozzle. The nozzle heats the material to melt and can be moved in horizontal and vertical directions. As soon as the material extrudes out from the nozzle, it hardens.
Materials used in this process are Thermoplastics (e.g. PLA, ABS), HDPE, eutectic metals, edible materials. Different polymers like acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), polycarbonate (PC), polylactic acid (PLA), high density polyethylene (HDPE), PC/ABS, and polyphenylsulfone (PPSU) are used as filament.
But still the extrusion process is not the best because it cannot build cylinder like structures as they will not be supported during the building process.

2. Granular bed: - Materials like titanium alloys, metal alloys or thermoplastic are mixed together to form granular bed. Then it fuses the parts layer by layer till the object is manufactured. A laser is used to make solid objects from the powder. This process of making solid objects from powder is called Sintering. Sintering technique involved in this process is Selective laser sintering.

3. Lamination Process: - Materials like paper, metal foil or plastic film is used to build the object by laminating. Printing cost in this technique is lower.
3D Printing - Laminating Film
3D Printing - Laminating Film
4. Light Polymerization: - Light Polymerization is basically a technique to build solid object out of liquid. This technique makes the use of tub of liquid polymer that is disclosed to light which in turn hardens. Then the build plate shifts in small amount in downward direction and again the liquid is disclosed under light. This process is repeated till the object has been generated. The left over liquid is then drained from the tub, giving the solid object. Another system like Inkjet printer sprays photopolymer material in thin layers on the solid object to make it complete.
3D Printing - Light Polymerization
3D Printing - Light Polymerization

Advantages

  • With 3D printing, a Company can develop large number of products in less time hence, increases the manufacturing speed.
  • Also you can easily print out small objects at home rather than going to the store to buy which consumes time. You can send the digital copy of 3D object anywhere in the world over the internet so that your friends or relatives don’t have to worry about getting the physical object if it isn’t available in their area provided they have 3D printer.
  • If you are good at designing, you can get your imagination transformed into actual object in much less time.
  • Though the price of 3D printer is quite high, but once you get it, the object made out of it will cost very cheaper.
  • It creates more jobs as more engineers are required to build 3D printers and more technicians are required to preserve and utilize those printers.

DisAdvantages

  • As 3D printer is a machine, it prints whatever you want without knowing how badly the object is going to affect. This might be helpful to criminals to print the dangerous objects which may increases the risk of criminal activity.
  • There will be reduction in manufacturing jobs as most of the work will be done by machine without involving much labor.
  • With 3D printing, the printing of copyrighted products will become more common resulting into building of fake products and difficult to determine.
  • Objects built from 3D printer are limited in size. The common 3D printer provides size enough to fit on your desktop. There are other printers that are able to build larger objects but still to build larger objects require larger amount to pay.
  • 3D printers built objects out of only plastic, few metals and ceramics presently.

Wireless Charging - How It Works and How Beneficial It Is?

Wireless Charging - How It Works and How Beneficial It Is?

Yeah!! Now, it is possible to charge your tele-communicating gizmos and even other electronic devices without cables. Wireless charging is now a days latest piece of technology and spreading in the world of electronics at a lightning speed.

The new technology arrived in market which provides wireless charging or rather inductive charging in technical terms. To be more specific, the wireless charging basically works on the fundamentals of electro-magnetic field to transfer the type of energy between the two devices. There are two coils one in the pad of the charger and other in the electronic device which is required to be charged.

Wireless Charging - Components
Wireless Charging - Components

How It Works

Initially the induction device uses an induction coil which releases the electro-magnetic field.  The other induction coil is in the device which is to be charged. It receives the electromagnetic field and through the phenomenon of the inductive coupling, that electromagnetic field is converted into electric current and the device is charged then. This becomes very technical as far as the technology hidden behind this type of charging and the fundamentals of science is concerned.

Wireless Charging - How it works?
Wireless Charging - How it works?

Major Advantages

Wireless Charging is very safe. No wires means No fear of electric shock. Further, this technology is used in medical devices, which is highly advantageous over the wires which are needed to be penetrated through the skin in case of several treatments. No infection can occur as there are no wires. Metal wires gets corroded sometimes, charging wirelessly does not have any issue regarding the corrosion. In the matter of convenience also, this charging provide convenient options as the user need not to attach his device to a cord rather he just need to keep the device near an induction coil and the work is done.

Major Disadvantages

In this fast and furious world, this induction charging seems to be slow. As it is wireless, the electromagnetic field is not direction specific which provides slow charging. Further, in the case of efficiency, wireless charging is lagging behind. For the people who are strictly against the global warming, can’t use this kind of charging as it wastes lot of heat and provides less charging as it spreads open field. Some users find this type of charging inconvenient because one need to put the device near the charging device and cannot even move the device in necessity. As far as the dollars and pounds are concerned, you need some more of them to get the pleasure of this type of charging.

Wireless Charging - Samsung Galaxy S4

Applications

This type of charging, as it is safe, recently used in the field of mobile phones, medical science instruments, radios in early days, cars manufactured by different companies such as Toyota and in other large machines. In the recent field of mobile phones, there is a Qi Standard and several companies adopted this Qi Standard in their recent inventions. The phones like Samsung Galaxy S4, HTC Droid, Nokia Lumia 1020 and Lumia 820, Nexus 4 series launched by Google and several other devices comes with the Qi standard which supports all kinds of wireless charging.

Wireless Charging - Smartphone

Future Scope

In short and simple term, wireless charging is good and all I can say is, wireless charging is the future of the chargeable devices but it needs some more modifications in the technology to make it faster and even more efficient to run with the ongoing pace of this technoworld.

Google Project Loon- A New Way To Connect To The World.

These days world is dependent mostly on internet. Life without internet seems to be harder for a moment for those who live surrounded by internet all the time. But still two thirds of the whole world’s population does not have access to the internet. Keeping that in mind, Google came up with innovative idea to connect people to internet and to make the best out of it.

Project Google Loon is basically cluster of balloons floating on the boundary of space that will help people to connect from different areas, and bring them back together.

Google Loon
Google Loon

Where it will travel?

Project Google Loon’s balloons will travel in stratosphere which is about 20 km above the earth’s surface. The reason for keeping it into stratosphere is wind in this layer is usually calm and moves slowly with speed of 5 to 10 mph. To determine the direction of the balloons, it uses some computer algorithms to decide where the balloons should move. In this way moving along with the direction of wind, these balloons can be adjusted to cover huge network of people.

What makes these balloons run?

All these balloons have solar panels installed that are capable of producing 100 Watts of power when exposed to full sun which charges its battery  enough to keep the balloons running  even at night. There is one small box below the balloon like in a hot air balloon but rather than having space for passengers, it contains electronic devices and boards to control the balloon, batteries to store power, GPS, sensors and antennas to communicate with internet antennas on the earth’s surface and with other balloons.
